On 23 October 2019, EPA received a works approval application from Great Southern Waste Technologies Pty Ltd. On the 20 July 2020, EPA has issued a works approval for the GSWT waste to energy project. The applicant, Great Southern Waste Technologies (GSWT) will utilise gasification technology developed by Energos Technology AS, processing 100,000 tonnes/year of municipal solid waste (household garbage) and commercial and industrial waste, to deliver approximately 7.9 MW of electricity to the grid.
