Construction of a controversial waste-to-energy plant in Dandenong South is expected to begin in April 2023, according to its proponent Great Southern Waste Technologies. The plant will utilize the “world leading ENERGOS technology developed in Norway to strict environmental guidelines”. Once complete, the plant will receive over 100,000 tonnes of waste per year, eliminate over 100,000T of greenhouse gas emissions, as compared to landfilling, and generate approximately 7.9 megawatts (MW) of baseload electricity to be fed into the grid.
